Environmental milestones - what we have achieved

2022

  • Conversion of all lighting in production and administration to LED lamps
  • Registration with the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi)
  • Development of a roadmap for decarbonising fuels

2021 Certification according to ISO 14001:2015

2021 Installation of a photovoltaic system
A PV system with 974 solar modules and an output of 365 kWp was installed on the roof of the production hall.

2019 Window renovation office building
In the office building, all windows were replaced with modern triple glazing on all floors.

2019 Renovation of the lighting systems in the office building
In the office building, the existing lighting systems were converted to LED lighting to reduce electricity consumption.

2018 Replacement of air compressors
The existing air compressors were replaced with new models with speed control and integrated waste heat recovery. This heat recovery allows 422 MWh per year to be recovered for the heating system. In addition, the control option brings a reduction of 96 MWh in electricity consumption.

2018 Roof renovation energy center
The flat roof was re-insulated with EPS panels 80 mm thick. The improved insulation reduces heat losses from the adjacent rooms and the pipes. This contributes to a reduction in annual heating oil consumption of around 3,000 liters.

2017 Replacement of boiler with HP boiler
The old 1000-liter electric boiler was replaced by an Ökotherm HP boiler. The expected savings amount to 12.4 MWh per year.

2017 LED lighting in office building and production
24 fluroescent lamps in the office building were replaced with LED lights; the expected savings amount to 1.7 MWh per year. In production, 20 fluorescent lamps were replaced with 10 LED lights. The annual savings calculated with the Checkup tool amount to 5.2 MWh.

2016 Reduction of heating oil consumption
Oil consumption for heating buildings declined by 5% in 2016 despite an increase of heating degree days (HDD) by 9%. The specific heating oil consumption for building heat declined to a record low of 42.9 litres/HDD in 2016. This corresponds to savings of about 8000 litres of heating oil versus 2015.

2015 Replacement of heat recovery pump with a frequency-converter type
A heat exchanger uses surplus heat from thermal oil for the hot water network. Due to the excessive rating of the secondary pump, the temperature differential across the heat exchanger in the secondary loop is too low. The pump is replaced with a frequency-converter type and regulated to a temperature differential of 5 to 6°C.

2014 Replacement of compressed air driers
The old compressed air driers built in 2002 and 2005 were replaced with new models. This reduced power consumption by 50%.

2014 Optimization of ventilation systems

2012 Partnership with myclimate
Agreement with the myclimate Foundation for climate-neutral packaging.

2012 Membership to the Initiative SAVE FOOD

2010 Reduction of cooling pump duty cycles
The enlargement of the cold-water basin improves load management and allows the cooling water pumps of two machines to be switched off on weekends and holidays. This action saves 25,500 kWh of electricity.

2010 Expansion of production building "NORTH"
The production hall was extended by 7.5 metres at the north end. The windowed front was renewed with tripe glazing that exceeds the minimal energy efficiency requirements of the canton of Zürich. In comparison with the old windows, the new ones save several thousand litres of heating oil per year.

2009 Heater boiler replacement
The old boiler was replaced with two smaller modulating heating oil boilers with burners. With virtually no changes to the HVAC systems, heating oil consumption was reduced by about 30,000 litres.

2007 Lighting upgrade in the production hall
The entire lighting system was replaced by a new energy-saving illumination concept. This new system saves considerable amounts of electricity.

2005 New exhaust air purification system (RNV)
The new exhaust air purification system with heat recovery for thermal oil and hot water consumes much less energy than the old system

2003 Joined the Swiss Energy Agency (EnAW)
Committment with the Swiss Energy Agency (EnAW) to reduce CO2 emissions.
