Sauerkraut and other raw products
Without additives, sauerkraut will continue to ferment in the packaging. Therefore, liquid-tight packaging of the product is possible only with a WICOVALVE® valve. Basically, the valve may briefly be in contact with the liquid, but to preserve its functional integrity, it must be integrated at the top end of the packaging under all circumstances.
For sauerkraut tubs or canisters, a lid film with a pre-integrated WICOVALVE® is sealed onto the rim. If stand-up pouches are used as packaging, the valve is also integrated in the top zone. A special label informs consumers that the pouches must be stored upright on their stable bottom gussets as opposed to horizontally on their sides.
